2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Contact form: your name, email address, the subject you choose and your message.
  • Newsletter sign-up: your email address and the date you subscribed.
  • Corrections, tips and advertising enquiries: the details you include in your email, together with your email address.

Information collected automatically

  • Technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device type and operating system.
  • Usage data such as the pages you visit, the time spent on them and the website that referred you.
  • An approximate region derived from your IP address. We do not collect precise location.
  • Information stored in cookies and similar technologies, described in our Cookie Policy.

Information from others

Our analytics, security and advertising partners may share aggregated reports with us, for example how many people read a section. These reports do not identify you.

3. How and why we use your information

  • To reply to you when you contact us, request a correction or send a tip, because you have asked us to.
  • To send newsletters you have signed up for, based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To run and protect the website, including preventing spam, abuse and security attacks, which is in our legitimate interest and yours.
  • To understand our audience and improve our journalism using aggregated statistics.
  • To show advertising that funds our free journalism, using cookies only where you have agreed where the law requires consent.
  • To meet legal obligations, such as responding to lawful requests from authorities.

4. Who we share information with

We share personal information only when necessary, and only with organisations that protect it to standards at least as strict as ours:

  • Hosting, content delivery, email delivery, security and backup providers that operate the website on our behalf.
  • Analytics and advertising partners, where you have consented to the relevant cookies.
  • Professional advisers, such as lawyers and accountants, when needed.
  • Authorities, courts or regulators when the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our readers, staff or others.
  • A buyer or successor if World Vital News is reorganised, merged or sold, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.

We do not sell or rent your personal information.

5. International processing

Some of our service providers may store or process information in countries other than the one you live in. When this happens, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as contractual commitments that protect your data to a recognised standard.

6. How long we keep information

  • Contact form messages and email correspondence: up to 24 months, unless a longer period is needed to deal with a complaint or legal matter.
  • Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, after which we keep a minimal record so that we do not email you again by mistake.
  • Server and security logs: normally up to 90 days.
  • Website backups: overwritten on a rolling basis, normally within 30 days.

7. How we protect information

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, a web application firewall, spam filtering and regular backups. Only people who need access to personal information to do their work can see it. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will act promptly if a problem occurs.

8. Your rights

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information;
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, certain uses of your information;
  • withdraw consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from a newsletter;
  • receive your information in a portable format; and
  • complain to a data protection authority.

To use any of these rights, email contact@worldvitalnews.com. We may need to confirm your identity before we act, and we will reply within the time the law allows.
